Stari Grad Kamnik 577 m🌿

This week, I went for a short but rewarding evening hike to Stari Grad above Kamnik, and it turned out to be just what I needed. Since I’m working on getting back some strength and building my routine again, this hike was the perfect choice.

We started from the parking area near the Kamnik hospital, which is a convenient spot if you’re coming by car. The trail begins with a steep ascent- a good warm-up for the legs -but it’s not too long. On the way back, we took the roundabout route, which is a bit gentler and offers different scenery, making it a nice loop.

  • Starting Point: Parking near Kamnik hospital
  • Elevation: Around 160 meters
  • Difficulty: Easy to moderate
  • Duration: About 35-40 minutes up

At the top, you reach the ruins of Stari Grad, an old castle site with amazing views over Kamnik and the surrounding valley. The atmosphere in the evening was peaceful, with the soft golden light making the town below look magical. There’s also a small hut where you can grab a drink if it’s open.

Stari Grad (meaning “Old Castle”) is a historic spot with a rich past. It dates back to medieval times and served as a fortress above the town. Today, it’s a peaceful destination for locals and visitors alike.

If you’re looking for a short, scenic hike that gives you a bit of a workout without taking too much time, Stari Grad is a great option. Especially in the evening, when the views and the air are extra refreshing!
